Gamescom 2015: A week in Cologne

Goodbye everyone!

Am I going somewhere? No, not really.

In fact, I’ve just returned from the world’s largest gaming event: Gamescom!

My love for gaming has been rekindled and, against my better judgement, it looks like I’m going to end up being shut away from the outside world!

Star Wars: Battlefront, Hitman and Guitar Hero: Live… these shall be the names of my captors.

Gaming and languages are two great passions of mine, and as a translator, I’m in the enviable position of being able to combine the two.

I translate browser games and mobile apps – which ensures I get plenty of creative texts to work on. Don’t get me wrong; my enthusiasm for translating contracts is just as boundless, but there will always be something special about gaming for me.

Maybe it’s the tricky puns I get to play around with, the fantastical lexicon or – more likely – the fact that I can directly contribute to the players’ gaming experience.

Translating games never fails to pose an interesting challenge, requiring imagination, the ability to solve problems and an intimate knowledge of the target audience. And, more importantly, it’s fun!

Are you a gamer?

Perhaps you also went to Gamescom? What did you think? Is there a particular game you’re looking forward to? Let’s hear it!
